Creating custom data forms
Last updated August 5, 2026
Objective
This guide explains how to create custom data forms for event registration in Recur. These forms allow organizations to collect additional information from attendees and their guests during the registration process.
Key Steps
Step 1: Navigate to Event Custom Data Forms
Start from the home screen.
Go to Settings.
Click Events.
Locate the Custom Data Forms section.
Step 2: Understand the Two Types of Custom Data Forms
Recur supports two types of event registration forms:
General Registration Forms – Collect information from the main event registrant.
Guest Tracking Forms – Collect information for each guest attending with the registrant.
Step 3: Create a General Registration Form
Click Add Form to create a new custom form.
Enter a name for the form (for example, Dietary Restrictions).
Choose the input type for the question.
Step 4: Choose the Field Type
Select the type of response you want to collect. Available options include:
Text field
Number field
Date field
Checkbox
Yes/No switch
List (single selection)
Multi-list (multiple selections)
Phone number entry
Step 5: Add Response Options
For list-based fields, enter response choices separated by commas.
Example options might include dietary preferences or accommodation needs.
Make sure the field is set to visible to the customer if attendees need to see it during registration.
Step 6: Add Additional Questions
Continue adding questions to your form as needed.
You can create multiple fields to gather different types of information.
Drag and drop the handles on the left side to reorder the questions.
Step 7: Create a Guest Tracking Form
Create a new form specifically for guest information.
This form will be completed once for each guest a registrant adds.
Step 8: Add Guest Information Fields
Common guest fields may include:
Guest name
Guest phone number
Guest email address
Guest age
Meal or menu preferences
Step 9: Configure Menu or Preference Options
If your event includes meal selections, create a list field with menu options such as:
Beef
Chicken
Pasta
Vegan
Step 10: Save the Custom Data Form
Click Save once all questions are configured.
The form will now be available when creating or editing events.
Step 11: Assign the Form to an Event or Template
When creating an event or event template, select the appropriate custom data form.
You can also assign a form to an event template so it automatically applies to future events created from that template.
Cautionary Notes
Only collect information that is necessary for event planning.
Ensure questions are clear so attendees understand what information is required.
Tips for Efficiency
Use general registration forms for attendee-specific questions such as accommodations.
Use guest tracking forms when attendees may bring additional guests.
Add meal preference questions to help plan catering and menu selections.
