Connecting an existing stripe account
Last updated August 4, 2026
Objective
Connecting an existing Stripe account is a quick and secure process that allows your association to begin accepting live payments. This guide covers the specific steps for administrators who already have a Stripe merchant account and need to link it to their Recur environment.
Key Steps
Step 1: Navigate to Payment Settings
Log in to your Recur account.
Click on Settings in the main navigation menu.
Select Payments from the sidebar options.
Step 2: Initiate the Stripe Connection
Locate the button labeled Connect Existing Stripe Account.
Note: Clicking this button will open a new browser tab (ensure your browser's pop-up blocker is disabled for this site).
Step 3: Authorize via Stripe
In the new tab, you will be prompted to log in to your official Stripe account.
Follow the secure on-screen prompts from Stripe to authorize the connection to Recur.
Once the authorization is complete, the tab will typically close or redirect you back to Recur.
Step 4: Verify Live Mode
Return to the Payments screen in Recur.
Confirm that the status is set to Live Mode. This ensures that actual transactions can be processed immediately.
Cautionary Notes
Pop-up Blockers: If no new tab opens when you click the "Connect" button, check your browser's address bar for a blocked pop-up notification and select "Always Allow" for Recur.
Administrative Access: You must have "Administrator" or "Owner" permissions on your Stripe account to successfully authorize the integration.
Tips for Efficiency
Fast Integration: This process uses Stripe's secure OAuth system, meaning you don't have to manually copy and paste complex API keys or secret tokens.
Testing: While the system is set to Live Mode, you can perform a $1.00 "Test Product" purchase once connected to verify that funds are flowing correctly to your bank account.
Support: If the connection fails to validate or if you encounter a "Redirect URI" error, reach out to the Recur support team to jump on a quick troubleshooting call.
