Email template overview

Objective

The Recur Email Editor is designed to help you create professional communications without starting from scratch. By using existing templates and mastering the "Copy" and "Structure" tools, you can build responsive emails that look great on both desktop and mobile devices.

Key Steps

Step 1: Start with Existing Templates

  • Navigate to Engage > Email > Email Templates.

  • Pro Tip: Instead of building from scratch, select a "Basic Email" template. It’s much easier to swap out content than to build the layout manually.

Step 2: Customizing Images and Logos

  • Replace Images: Double-click any image or logo to open the file picker and replace it with your own.

  • Resizing: Use the Dimension tab (paintbrush icon).

    • Best Practice: Use percentages (e.g., 50% or 100%) for width rather than fixed pixels. This ensures the image auto-adjusts for mobile screens. Set height to auto to maintain the correct aspect ratio.

Step 3: Use the "Action" Buttons

When you click on any element in the editor, four icons appear. Master these to save time:

  • Mover (Arrows): Drag and drop the element to a new location.

  • Copier (Double Square): Duplicate the element. This is the fastest way to add a new text box or image while keeping the formatting identical.

  • Delete (Trash Can): Remove the element.

Step 4: Adding Event and Blog Content

  • Click the Plus (+) button in the top right to open the content drawer.

  • Event Blocks: Drag an "Event" onto the email.

    • Hyperlink: Creates a simple text link.

    • Block: Automatically pulls in the event image, description, and a "Register" button directly from your Recur event settings.

Step 5: Master Alignment via Structure

  • To change text alignment (left, right, center), do not click the text itself.

  • The Fix: Click on the Section or Table Cell that contains the text. Then, go to the Typography tab to set the alignment. This ensures all elements within that cell move together.

Step 6: Create Clickable Image Links

  • Drag a Link Block onto the email.

  • Go to Settings (Cog Icon) and enter your URL in the href field. Set the target to "New Window."

  • Drag your image inside the Link Block. Now, the entire image acts as a button.

Cautionary Notes

  • Mobile Responsiveness: Always use the Phone Icon at the top of the editor to preview how your email looks on a mobile device before sending.

  • The "Fussy" Builder: Remember that alignment and links work best when nested inside a Link Block or Table Cell. If an element isn't moving, check its "wrapper."

Tips for Efficiency

  • Copy, Don't Build: If you’ve spent time styling a specific text box, just use the Copy button to create a second one. This is much faster than dragging a new text box and reapplying fonts and colors.

  • Personalization: Use the Personalize tag tool (usually found in the text editor bar) to add the member's first name, making the email feel more direct.

  • Attachments: Use the Attachments button (Recur logo icon) to include PDFs or files up to 5 MB.
