Editing and customizing contact fields
Last updated August 5, 2026
Objective
This guide demonstrates how to manage and customize Contact Fields within Recur. By configuring these fields, you can choose exactly what data to collect for your members—from standard information like birthdays to unique, association-specific details like department names.
Key Steps
Step 1: Access Contact Settings
Navigate to the top right-hand corner of the Recur home screen.
Click on the Settings Cog icon.
From the sidebar menu, select Contacts.
Step 2: Manage Standard Fields
You will see a list of pre-set contact attributes (e.g., Name, Email, Birthday).
Toggle Visibility: Some fields are permanent, but for many others, you can use the checkboxes on the right-hand side to decide if they should be active in your system.
Example: If you do not wish to collect birthday information, simply uncheck that box.
Step 3: Create Customized Fields
If the standard fields do not cover your organization's specific needs, you can create your own:
Scroll to the bottom of the field list.
Name the Field: Enter the label for the data you want to collect (e.g., "Department" or "Certification Level").
Select Data Type: Choose the format for the information (e.g., Text, Date, or Dropdown).
Customer Visibility: Toggle whether this field should be visible to the customer/member or if it is for internal administrative use only.
Click Add to finalize the field.
Step 4: Reorder Your Fields
To change the order in which these fields appear on a contact profile or form:
Locate the three little lines (hamburger icon) to the left of any field name.
Click and drag the field up or down to your preferred position.
Cautionary Notes
Data Consistency: Before adding custom fields, check if a similar standard field already exists to keep your database clean.
Visibility Settings: Be careful when marking fields as "Visible to Customer." Ensure that internal-only notes or administrative rankings are kept private by leaving that option unchecked.
Tips for Efficiency
Streamlined Profiles: Disable any standard fields your association doesn't use. This makes the contact profile cleaner and faster for your team to read.
Form Integration: The order you set here often dictates how information is requested in other parts of the platform, so place the most important information (like "Department") near the top.
Precise Data: When creating custom fields, use specific "Data Types" (like a Date picker for renewals) rather than just a plain text box to ensure your data remains easy to report on later.
