Last updated August 5, 2026
Objective
This guide explains how to structure your website's Navigation, Header, Footer, and Social Media Profiles in Recur Sites. Setting up these site-wide settings ensures visitors can easily navigate your content and connect with your organization across all devices.
1. Setting Up Your Navigation Structure
Your navigation structure dictates the menus, drop-down options, and page links displayed to visitors.
Creating Navigation Containers and Items
Access Navigation: Go to Settings > Navigation from the left-hand sidebar.
Select/Create Containers: Select an existing navigation container (e.g., Main) or create a new custom container (e.g., Test Navigation).
Add Menu Items:
Click Add Item.
Type the display name for the item (e.g., Events).
Choose the Item Type:
Internal Page: Links directly to a page built inside your Recur site (e.g., Event Landing).
External Link: Points to an outside URL (set to open in the same or a new window).
Blog Post / Content: Directs visitors to a specific article.
Drop-down Menu: Serves as a parent header for sub-links rather than linking to a single page.
Toggle visibility and click Add Item.
Creating Drop-Down Sub-Links
Locate a parent item (e.g., About) set as a drop-down menu.
Click the three dots (
...) next to the item and select Add Sublink.Enter the sub-link title (e.g., Board Members or Mission Statement), assign its internal page or target link, and click Save Changes.
Note: Always click Save Changes on each individual sub-link item to ensure your navigation structure renders correctly.
2. Customizing the Header Layout
The Header acts as the top anchor of your website, featuring your logo, primary menus, and key calls-to-action (CTAs).
Access Header Settings: Go to Settings > Header.
Positioning Elements: Use the interactive layout grid (ranging from Top-Left to Bottom-Right) to arrange elements:
Logo Placement: Click and drag the six-dot handle (
⋮⋮) to position your logo (typically positioned on the Left Side).Navigation Menus: Select which navigation container to load into the main header area.
Call-to-Action (CTA) Buttons: Add direct action buttons (e.g., Join or Donate) to the top right.
Custom Elements: Add social media links, contact info, or custom text blocks.
3. Configuring the Footer
A structured footer provides essential contact details, legals, and secondary links at the bottom of every page.
Access Footer Settings: Go to Settings > Footer.
Recommended Footer Columns:
About Us Block: Features your logo and a brief association mission summary.
Quick Links: Provides fast access to internal landing pages (e.g., Contact Us, Events, Membership).
Contact Information: Displays key email addresses, physical location details, or phone numbers.
Follow Us Block: Displays linked icons for your official social media profiles.
Styling & Advanced Settings: Expand Advanced Settings to customize footer background colors, text contrast, and minimum height bounds.
4. Connecting Social Media Profiles
To ensure your header and footer social links route correctly:
Access Social Profiles: Go to Settings > Social Media.
Add Profiles: Click Add Social Profile.
Configure: Select your target platform from the dropdown menu (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook, BlueSky), paste your profile URL, and click Save.
Once saved, these accounts automatically become available to toggle on or off in your header and footer blocks.
Tips for Efficiency
Header Best Practices: For a clean, high-converting header, include your logo on the left, 4 to 6 main navigation items in the center, and a prominent Join or Login CTA button on the right.
Saving Progress: When adding sub-links to navigation menus, make sure to save each individual item edit before reordering or switching tabs.
