Member portal: community & group management

Last updated August 5, 2026

Objective

The Community tab in the Recur Member Portal provides a centralized space for members to communicate, network, and organize. It eliminates scattered text threads by keeping all conversation history, files, committee groups, and organizational rosters accessible within the portal.

1. Community Discussions

Navigating Discussions & Categories

  • Accessing Discussions: Hover over Community on the left menu and select Community (the option with the text preview below it).

  • Category Filters: Use the left sidebar to view All Discussions or filter conversations by category:

    • Announcements

    • Events

    • General

    • Networking

  • Pinned Threads: Important announcements or high-priority topics can be pinned to the top of the discussion list for easy visibility.

Creating Groups & Starting Discussions

  1. Create a Group: Click Create New Group in the top right. Enter a Group Name (e.g., "Book Club") and an optional Description (e.g., "Happens every Tuesday"), then click Create Group.

  2. Start a Discussion: Click Start a Discussion or New Discussion.

    • Select the target Group.

    • Enter a Title.

    • Type your message thoughts/content into the main text box.

    • (Optional) Click Attach File to upload supporting documents or assets.

    • Click Post Discussion.

Replying to Conversations

  • Click directly into any active discussion thread.

  • Type your reply in the text field at the bottom.

  • Click Post Reply to join the conversation.

2. Groups Management

The Groups tab lists all specialized committees and member circles within your association.

  • Viewing Members: Click into any listed group to view the active member roster.

  • Proposing New Groups:

    1. Click Create Group.

    2. Enter the Group Name, select the Group Type, and add a Description.

    3. Click Submit for Approval.

Approval Process: All new group requests are submitted for administrative review so portal admins can verify and approve the group before it goes live.

  • Searching Groups: Use the top search bar to quickly locate specific interest groups or committees.

3. Organizations

The Organizations tab displays linked corporate accounts, partner organizations, or company rosters within your association.

  • Directory View: Click on an organization to inspect its linked contacts and members.

  • Adding Members to an Organization:

    1. Open the target organization profile.

    2. Click Add New Contact or search directly within the AMS (Association Management System) database (e.g., typing a member's name like "Matthew").

    3. Select the matching profile and click Add.

Cautionary Notes

  • Daily Digest Sync: Remind members that they can toggle on the Daily Discussion Summary inside their Me > Profile settings if they want a daily email digest of new community posts.

  • Group Approvals: Submitted group proposals do not appear publicly on the portal until an administrator approves them.

Tips for Efficiency

  • File Sharing in Threads: Instead of emailing heavy attachments to committee members, attach files directly to a group discussion post so they remain permanently archived in the portal.
