Adding memberships to your site

Objective

Adding membership tiers directly to your website allows prospective members to browse options, compare pricing, and complete purchases online. Recur Sites provides two primary methods for adding memberships to your web pages: using a Pre-built Page Template or manually inserting the Product List Widget.

Method 1: Using the Pre-Built "Join / Membership" Template

If you are building a new dedicated membership landing page, using a template provides a pre-formatted, professional design out of the box:

  1. From the Recur dashboard, open Sites via the 9-dot App menu in the top-right corner.

  2. Go to Pages > All Pages on the left menu.

  3. In the top-right corner, click Create Page and select New from Template.

  4. Choose the Join / Membership Tiers template under the Membership category tab and click Use Template.

  5. The pre-configured layout and embedded membership catalog widget will load onto your canvas, ready for customization.

Method 2: Manually Adding the Membership Widget

To embed membership purchase options into an existing custom page or a blank page:

  1. Go to Pages > All Pages and select Create Page > Blank Page (or edit an existing page).

  2. On the left sidebar menu, select Recur integrations.

  3. Locate Product List under the Recur components and drag and drop it directly onto your canvas.

Configuring the Product List Widget

Once the Product List widget is on your canvas, customize its parameters using the right sidebar panel:

  • Category Selection: Change the section title to "Memberships". Under product type, select Membership (this filters out generic store items like hats or merchandise so only membership products appear).

  • View Types: Choose how your tiers display on screen:

    • List View

    • Compact List

    • Masonry Grid

  • Display Controls:

    • Products Per Page: Adjust how many items display per page (e.g., set to 4 or 6 items).

    • Media & Pricing: Toggle whether to display product images and prices.

    • Description Display: Set text length to No Description, 3 Lines, or Full Description.

    • Button Labels: Customize the checkout call-to-action text (e.g., change from default to "Buy Here" or "Join Now").

    • Empty State Message: Customize the fallback text that appears if no memberships are actively available.

  • Pagination & Privacy:

    • Enable Pagination: Toggle on pagination controls (e.g., page numbers 1, 2, 3) if you offer a large number of membership tiers, preventing endless page scrolling.

    • Show Private Products: Toggle whether unlisted or restricted membership tiers are visible on this public page.

Cautionary Notes

  • Product Categorization: Ensure that your membership tiers are categorized correctly under Products in the main Recur database; miscategorized store merchandise (e.g., chairs or apparel) will improperly populate the widget if tagged as a membership.

  • Publishing Requirement: Remember to click Publish in the top-right corner of the editor once your page configuration is complete to make the purchase options live to the public.

Tips for Efficiency

  • Clear Descriptions: Include short 3-line summaries on your membership products in the backend so prospective members can easily compare tier benefits directly within the widget view.
