Making an event private

Last updated August 5, 2026

Objective

Restricting event availability in Recur allows association organizers to host exclusive committee meetings, VIP dinners, or invitation-only sessions that are hidden from public event listings.

How to Set an Event to Private or Invitation Only

Step 1: Open Event Registration Settings

  1. Open the Events app from your dashboard.

  2. Select Create Event (or click Edit on an existing event draft).

  3. Navigate to Step 3: Registration and RSVP in the setup wizard.

Step 2: Configure Event Availability

  1. Locate the Event Availability section at the top of Step 3.

  2. Select your desired privacy mode:

    • Private: Keeps the event hidden from general site directories and public calendars.

    • Invitation Only: Ensures access is strictly restricted to members explicitly sent an invitation link.

  3. Click Save and Publish in the upper right corner to apply your privacy settings.

Cautionary Notes

  • Save Requirement: Always click Save and Publish after modifying availability parameters; simply toggling the setting will not lock down an active public event unless saved.

  • Direct Invite Links: Ensure you copy and distribute the private event URL or direct invite list from the event share panel, as members cannot find private events through directory search.
